We are incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on two of our very special teachers who continue to inspire not only our learners but our entire school community. Their recent awards are a testament to their hard work, passion, and the way they proudly fly our school’s flag high. A huge congratulations and heartfelt thank you for representing us with such excellence—your achievements remind us of the true impact a teacher can have. Here’s more insight into their inspiring journeys.
Ms. Höll: Innovating Through Technology in Sports and Exercise Science

As part of the school management team and Head of Science, Ms. Lizette Höll has been a passionate force in pioneering Sports and Exercise Science at Roosevelt High since 2016.
For Ms. Höll, the classroom is more than just a place of learning—it’s a vibrant, happy space where learners feel welcomed and inspired. Her classroom walls are decorated with learner-created posters, reflecting a community of belonging and creativity.
Despite Sports Science in South Africa currently having no prescribed textbook or DBE-set Annual Teaching Plan (ATP), Ms. Höll has not let that stand in her way. Instead, she has poured countless hours into designing her own working textbooks for Grades 10–12, crafting interactive notes on Canva, and integrating technology to make lessons visual, fun, and impactful.
“My classroom is my happy place… hard work pays off, and this nomination is a feather in my cap. It motivates me to keep pushing boundaries and showing learners that learning can be both meaningful and enjoyable.” – Ms. HöllHer dedication was recognized when she was awarded first place in the Cluster round, advancing to represent Johannesburg North & East at the Gauteng Provincial round held on 11 August at Kopanong Hotel, East Rand. The provincial prize-giving will take place on 26 September, with MEC of Education, Mr. Matome Chiloane.
Placing first in both Gauteng North and South has been a humbling milestone for Ms. Höll, reinforcing her belief that acknowledgement fuels growth and inspires educators to strive for excellence daily.
Mrs. Hulley: Leading with Compassion in Tourism and Life Orientation

Since joining Roosevelt High in 2018, Mrs. Bianca Hulley has become a dedicated and inspiring force within the school. Currently teaching Tourism and Life Orientation, she has also served as a Grade Manager since 2021, guiding learners with a blend of discipline, empathy, and encouragement.
Before entering education, Mrs. Hulley worked in marketing, where she discovered that her true passion lay in empowering young people. Her transition into teaching has been driven by a deep commitment to equipping learners with the knowledge and values needed to overcome generational challenges.
Her philosophy as an educator is rooted in compassion. She believes that every learner should be left better than when she first encountered them—not only by teaching and guiding, but also by showing love and understanding. It is this nurturing approach that earned her a nomination in the 2025 National Teaching Awards, under the category Excellence in Secondary School Education.
For Mrs. Hulley, her learners are more than just students—they are her “kids.” Each one is treated with the same care, respect, and support, fostering a classroom environment where every learner feels valued.
“If I could only impact one learner in my life, then I have achieved my goal and mission as a teacher.” – Mrs. HulleyHer journey in the National Teaching Awards saw her represent Roosevelt High at the cluster round of presentations. While she did not progress further, she describes the experience as deeply humbling and enriching. For Mrs. Hulley, the true reward lies in the joy of touching lives daily, and in the belief that acknowledgement, no matter the outcome, fuels growth and inspires her to continue striving for excellence
