Top 5 Feeder School for UJ – Johannesburg North

We are thrilled to share that Roosevelt High School has been recognised as one of the Top 5 feeder schools for the University of Johannesburg (Johannesburg North).

In a special assembly, UJ representatives visited us and presented a certificate in front of the whole school. This recognition reflects the hard work of our learners, the dedication of our educators, and the support of our parents. What a proud moment for our community!

Emmarentia Garden Clean-Up

On 16 August, our Grade 11 School Committee and staff members gave up their Saturday to make a difference at Emmarentia Gardens.

Armed with gloves, black bags, and plenty of determination, they worked tirelessly to restore the park. This effort not only beautified a space enjoyed by the public, but also highlighted the spirit of service and responsibility we encourage at Roosevelt.

Well done to our Grade 11s for setting such a strong example of citizenship!

Road Safety Incident – 28 July

With deep concern, we reported the recent taxi accident involving some of our learners. The reckless driving of a private operator led to the crash.

By grace, none of the learners sustained serious injuries. We extend heartfelt thanks to the parents and community members who stopped to assist at the scene – your compassion reflects the strength of our Roosevelt family spirit.

A gentle reminder: in such cases, learners should not be removed from the accident scene unless it is a medical emergency. This ensures emergency services can act swiftly and the school can account for every learner while communicating with families responsibly.

Congratulations to Our New Leaders

We proudly welcome our newly elected RCL leaders!

This year, we are hosting the RCL Leadership Camp on 12 September, earlier than in previous years. This allows our leaders to begin their journey united, prepared, and focused.

Ms. Venter has full faith in this team and looks forward to supporting them as they grow into leaders who inspire their peers.

Prelim Examinations

Our learners are busy with their Prelim Exams – an important step towards final success.

Teachers are continuing with revision support, and learners are encouraged to use the October holidays to review areas they find challenging.

For our Grade 12s, there will be no October break – this time is dedicated to final preparation. Reports will be shared at the start of the holiday so that learners know exactly which subjects require focus.

Subject Choices for Grade 9 Learners

This time of year marks an important milestone for our Grade 9s as they choose subjects for their senior years.

Parents, your role is to guide and support, but remember: these choices must belong to your child. They should be aligned with each learner’s strengths, passions, and future career aspirations. When learners feel ownership over their subject choices, they are more motivated and committed to their studies.

Closing Words

We are so grateful for the unwavering support of our parents and the continued trust you place in Roosevelt High School.

Together, we are shaping not only academic excellence but also responsible, resilient, and compassionate young people.

Warm regards,

Ms. C. Venter
